BATAVIA, IL — Water Street Studios is relaunching its Community Gallery in June a year hiatus.
Located on the second floor of Water Street Studios in the heart of the Resident Artist District, the Community Gallery gives local artists opportunities to exhibit and sell artwork in a professional setting. With six juried shows each year, the program will cover a variety of themes, from social issues to nature, in the hopes of sparking meaningful conversations, according to a news release.
The pause on the program lasted for about a year “as the Board evaluated the resources, including staff and volunteer support, necessary to relaunch it on a sustainable, long-term basis,” Operations Manager Gianna Bisogni told Patch.
The first series, "What's Your Story," will be made up of four two-month-long exhibits designed to show different sides of artists. The first show in the series, "Identity," will launch June 12 and run through Aug. 1.
The next parts of the series — "Home," "Portrait" and "Mental Health" — will continue through the beginning of February 2027.
The call for art for "Identity" is open, with submissions due at midnight May 17.
Water Street Studios, at 160 S. Water St., is open to visitors from noon to 4 p.m. Friday to Sunday.
