Are you NUTS? Be sure to follow the National Safety Council’s tips for safe shoveling enhanced by The Joint Aurora

· National Safety Council recommends the following tips to shovel safely.

· Do not shovel after eating or while smoking. Really? Did we have to remind you to not smoke while shoveling? You probably don’t want to smoke while snow blowing either…just saying.

· Take it slow and stretch out before you begin. You stretch before you work out, right? You don’t think shoveling is working out? Or you don’t workout…then you might want to rethink the shoveling thing and hire it out to the neighbor’s kid…

· Shovel only fresh, powdery snow; it's lighter. You could always go rogue and shovel old, icy snow but that’s probably not a good idea…

· Push the snow rather than lifting it. To the left, to the left, push all the snow to a box on the left…There is no job that can’t be made better by listening to Beyonce….

· If you do lift it, use a small shovel or only partially fill the shovel. You could use a small sand shovel but you would probably be out there for a long time and then you must read tips on avoiding frost bite….

· Lift with your legs, not your back. That’s something they tell everybody but nobody ever does…but here’s trying. Lift with your legs, not your back. Oh, you ignored us didn’t you. See ya real soon here at The Joint in Aurora!

· Do not work to the point of exhaustion. Well, that’s easier said than done, isn’t it? Do you live in Illinois? We here at The Joint are already mentally exhausted and all we did was walk into the garage to look for a shovel. Is it spring yet? Oh, yeah, it snows in the spring here…
