Armed Men Try To Rob Steak 'n Shake In Batavia: Police

BATAVIA, IL -- Police in Batavia responded to a report of an attempted armed robbery early Sunday morning after a man in a mask with a handgun came into the Steak 'n Shake on McKee Street demanding money. The incident took place just after 3:30 a.m. at the restaurant on 1901 McKee St.

Police say both employees on duty ran to the back of the restaurant when they saw the suspect come in. One employee reportedly locked himself in the restaurant's cooler for safety and the other left the building through the back door.

A second suspect came into the restaurant shortly thereafter and both men reportedly walked through the business before leaving and driving off in a silver four-door sedan.

Responding police officers were unable to locate the vehicle or either suspect in the immediate aftermath.
