Under Illinois law, school board members must be United States citizens, residents of Illinois and of the school district for at least one year ahead of the election, at least 18 years old, a registered voter. Members cannot also be school trustees.
Newly appointed Board members will also be required to complete mandatory training as outlined in the Illinois School Code.
During the interview process, prospective members should plan to give an opening statement — not exceeding 5 minutes — explaining why they wish to serve on the Board. Current members will then ask questions during an interview expected to last about 30 minutes.
The two new members will be sworn into office at a special Board meeting July 13, the same meeting in which the Board will elect a new secretary.
"Batavia Public School District 101 values community involvement and looks forward to welcoming individuals committed to serving students and supporting the district's future," officials said.
