Batavia Deck Damaged Following Gas Grill Fire, Explosion
A neighbor tried to put the fire out with a garden hose. The homeowner was not at home at the time of the blaze.

BATAVIA, IL - A deck at a home in Batavia was damaged Sunday afternoon when a gas grill caught fire and a propane gas tank kept underneath the grill exploded.
Firefighters were called to the home at 529 S. Forest Ave. at about 3:02 p.m. Sunday where they found a neighbor trying to extinguish the natural gas grill, which was on fire, with garden hose, according to a Batavia Fire Department press release.
Fire crews shut off the gas to the home and were able to extinguish the blaze with a fire extinguisher. The fire was brought under control in about 10 minutes.

An explosion that was reported during the blaze was caused by a small propane torch that was kept under the grill, fire officials said.
The deck sustained minor fire damage. NICOR responded to the scene to turn the gas service back on to the home.
