Batavia District 101 Goes Remote For Incoming Winter Snowstorm

All after-school activities and athletics were also canceled for Friday, officials said.

BATAVIA, IL — Batavia Public School District 101 students will learn remotely Friday due to the incoming winter snowstorm, officials announced Thursday evening.

District staff cited "anticipated extreme weather conditions" as the reason for remote learning.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm watch ahead of a Friday snowstorm with potential blizzard conditions. Heavy and blowing snow is possible, and accumulations could be greater than 6 inches, with wind gusts as high as 50 mph, according to the weather service.

The first round of wet snow will start after midnight, with peak snowfall between 2 and 8 a.m. that could snarl the morning commute. The weather service said there could be a few hours on Friday morning where snow impacts the morning commute, with snow rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour, mainly along and north of Interstate 80.

All athletic and after-school activities are canceled Friday. Students in alternate placement programs outside District 101 won't have in-person school, either, according to the district's alert.

District 101 administrative offices will be open Friday with limited availability, officials said. Anyone planning on visiting should call ahead at 630-937-8800.
