Batavia Fire Department Conducts River Rescue Over Weekend
A pontoon boat lost power and was stuck on the dam Sunday.

On Sunday, 08/16/2020, at 4:54 PM, the Batavia Fire Department responded to 500 N. River St. Challenge Dam for a pontoon boat that lost power and was stuck on the dam. During rescue efforts, the female victim went over the dam and was rescued by a Batavia Firefighter and Police Officer downstream. She was then assessed by fire department medics and transported to Delnor Community Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The male victim was rescued by boat by fire department personnel. One firefighter suffered minor injuries that did not require medical attention. The Batavia Fire Department cleared the incident with no further actions taken and was assisted by the fellow fire departments of Geneva, St. Charles, North Aurora, Elburn, Fermi Lab, and Kaneville. The pontoon boat will be left on the dam until it can be removed at a later date.
