Batavia Garbage Collection To Start Earlier Than Normal Due To Weather

Heavy and blowing snow​ is possible Friday, and accumulations could be greater than 6 inches, with wind gusts as high as 50 mph.

BATAVIA, IL — Garbage collection on Friday in Batavia will start one hour earlier than normal, officials announced.

Groot will begin collecting refuse and recycling at 6 a.m., rather than 7 a.m. to accommodate weather conditions, according to an alert from the city. Residents should have bins at the curb by 6 a.m.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm watch ahead of a Friday snowstorm with potential blizzard conditions. Heavy and blowing snow is possible, and accumulations could be greater than 6 inches, with wind gusts as high as 50 mph, according to the weather service.

After the winter storm at the end of the week, temperatures will be much colder, Patch reported. The high for Saturday is 23 degrees, with single-digit wind chills expected. On Saturday night, wind chills could be 20 below zero.

Sunday is expected to be even colder with a high of 7, and Monday will have a high of 2 degrees, according to the weather service.
