BATAVIA, IL — A Batavia man is facing multiple charges, including two felonies, after he was depicted in surveillance footage killing a cat, officials said.

Officers were dispatched at about 11:22 a.m. Aug. 4 to a shop in the 900 block of West Wilson Street after a caller, who police described as a representative of the business, reported finding a dead cat in a box in the dumpster behind the storefront.

The caller reviewed the business's video surveillance footage, which showed a person, later identified as Brennan K. Loeffler, running the cat over several times with a car before putting it in the dumpster. The video's timestamp placed the event at about 11:45 p.m. Aug. 3, police said.

Loeffler turned himself in Sept. 2 to the Batavia Police Department. He was then processed and transported to the Kane County jail.

His bail was set at $10,000, but he was released on personal recognizance after going before a judge, meaning he was not required to post any money, Detective Sergeant Gary La Barbera told Patch.
