Batavia Triathlon to Cause Traffic Delays This Weekend

The triathlon will be held this Sunday.

The 2017 Batavia Sprint Distance Triathlon will be held this Sunday in Batavia. The race will kick off at 6:30 a.m. and will cause traffic delays through the westside of Batavia, city officials said. The main intersections to be affected by the race include Route 31 and First Street, First Street and South Van Nortwick Avenue, West Wilson Street and Van Nortwick Avenue, Wilson Street and Randall Road, Wilson Street and Deerpath Road and Deerpath Road and Main Street. The race will continue west on Main Street to Bliss Road.

The triathlon, which includes a swim, 14-mile bike ride and 4-mile run, is expected to end at about 10 a.m.

Motorists are urged to use caution and be prepared to encounter increased bicycle traffic on the following streets during the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 9 a.m.: South Batavia Avenue and First Street, West Wilson Street, Main Street and Fabyan Parkway, Main Street and Bliss Road, Seavey Road and Nelson Lake Road.

Each of the road and intersections will be staffed by public safety employees and race volunteers and vehicular traffic will be allowed to pass whenever it is safe to do so.

The event will end with runners finishing their run portion of the race on the Fox River Trail system. The finish line will be at the Batavia VFW, 645 S. River St.
