Batavia UMC Presents A Free Concert With Alethea

Batavia United Methodist Church invites the community to a free concert on Sunday, May 1 at 4:30pm.

Due to the chilly, damp, and windy weather, today’s free concert with Alathea has been moved inside to the warm and cozy historic Batavia UMC Sanctuary. Batavia UMC is located at 8 North Batavia Avenue. You can enter the church through either our Batavia Avenue entrance or the Water Street entrance, but parking is located behind the church on Water Street.

Batavia United Methodist Church will be celebrating the work of Appalachia Service Project with a concert featuring the singer/song-writer duo Alethea. Winners of numerous acoustic music and songwriting awards, Mandee Langley and Cristi Reilly, take stories from their own lives and weave them into music that’s instantly relatable. Their harmony driven performances are a blend of singer/song-writer, Americana folk, with a touch of bluegrass.

Alathea travels around the country and across the world averaging over 150 events each year that include NPR’s Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour, Pennsylvania’s acclaimed Musikfest, Bristol’s Rhythm and Roots Reunion as well as performances in Europe and Asia. Alathea also performs many benefit concerts in support of the service organization Appalachian Service Project, or ASP.

Each year, ASP brings thousands of volunteers from around the country to rural Central Appalachia to repair homes for low-income families. For 47 years, ASP and their volunteers have made homes warmer, safer, and drier for families and provided transformational service experiences for volunteers. Last year, 16,267 volunteers served with ASP, providing critical repairs for 562 families. This year will be the eighth year that Batavia UMC will be sending a team of youth and adults to serve with ASP.

Batavia UMC hopes that you will join us for this family friendly event and please invite your friends. For more information visit www.bataviaumc.com.
