Batavians To Pay More For Electricity

Electric rates to go up Jan. 1 anywhere from $8 to $21 a month, thanks to a rate increase and changing to a levelized 12-month payment plan.

Batavia residents can expect to see a significant increase in their monthly electric bills after the Batavia City Council approved a 10 percent electric rate increase and a nearly $7 increase to fixed customer fees.

The Beacon News reports the monthly fixed customer fee is going up from $3.59 to $10. City officials indicated monthly rates could go up between $8 and $21 for the average household.

The last time the city saw a rate increase was in 2008.
