Burglary Suspect Gained Unauthorized Access To Batavia Apartments: PD

BATAVIA, IL — A woman is accused of burglarizing two apartments after forcing entry into a retirement community, police said Thursday afternoon.

Officials released two photos captured from surveillance footage depicting a woman wearing black clothes, black shoes and glasses around her neck. One image shows her carrying an open pink purse.

Police said the woman forced entry, causing minor damage, into a retirement community in the 2400 block of Hawks Drive between 10 p.m. and midnight Monday. Windmill Manor Senior Living is located at 2400 Hawks Drive in Batavia.

The woman gained unauthorized access into at least two units in the building and stole a purse from one unit while the resident slept, officials said. The other unit was vacant, and nothing is believed to have been taken.

There were no signs of forced entry to either apartment, police said.

"Residents are reminded to lock entry doors to their apartments, including exterior patio doors," police said.

Police urge residents to report any suspicious activity in their neighborhoods by calling 911.
