Grace DuMelle, author of Finding Your Chicago Ancestors, will explain how to overcome the challenges of searching for your Windy City relations. DuMelle will highlight the geographic and government sources—fire insurance maps, probate cases, and inquest records—that can open a window into your ancestors’ world. DuMelle is a professional researcher and is on staff at the Newberry Library in Chicago. She’s done work for the United States Justice Department and Graystone Communications, the parent company of The History Channel. The program is the second in the library’s new genealogy series, “Questions & Ancestors.” Registration is required. Register online at www.BataviaPublicLibrary.org or call the library Reference Desk, (630) 879-1393, ext. 200.
