City Of Batavia: 4th Ward Alderman Vacancy Candidate Applications

The City of Batavia is looking for candidates to apply for a newly created vacancy on the Batavia City Council.

The vacancy was created following Fourth Ward Alderman Joseph Knopp’s resignation. In accordance with state statute, the successful candidate will be appointed by Batavia Mayor Jeff Schielke, with the advice and consent of the City Council.

The person appointed to the seat will serve until a candidate is elected during the April 2023 consolidated election. Knopp had served on the City Council since 2019.

Residents interested in consideration for appointment to the vacant seat must have resided in the Fourth Ward for at least one year. They can submit a letter of interest and resume to Batavia Mayor Jeff Schielke.

Materials either can be dropped off at Batavia City Hall; mailed to 100 N. Island Ave., Batavia, IL 60510; or emailed to kmorley@cityofbatavia.net. All letters/resumes must be received by 4 p.m. October 1.

Persons interested in elective municipal office must meet the following criteria:

• Be a qualified elector of the municipality,

• Have resided in the municipality at least one year next preceding the election or appointment,

• Not be in arrears in the payment of a tax or other indebtedness due to the municipality or been convicted in any court of any infamous crime, bribery, perjury, or other felony.

* Reside in the ward that the person seeks to represent at least one year next preceding the election or appointment.

In addition, the Government Ethics Act requires a statement of economic interest be filed with the Kane County Clerk’s Office.
