City-Wide Garage Sale In Batavia: 2023 Dates Announced
The 4th of July fireworks show typically requires more than $30,000 in funding, and the garage sale is organizers' top fundraising effort.
BATAVIA, IL — Dates have been unveiled for Batavia's city-wide garage sale. Hosted by the Batavia Fireworks Committee, the event is set to take place May 5-6.
Mayor Jeffery Schielke revealed preliminary details about the event in his weekly update posted on YouTube Monday.
Registration costs $35 dollars, which includes publicity, and residents keep the money they make. Organizers will post addresses around town to spread the word.

Putting on the show typically requires more than $30,000 in funding, and the garage sale is one of the committee's top fundraising efforts, according to Schielke.
"We raised a lot of money in the last few years because we find as spring is starting to come to an end and people had a winter to buy things and collect things and store things, there's a big desire to pare yourself down in your household, and a lot of people are there to do just that," the mayor said.

All money raised through registration fees goes toward the firework fund.
"We get quite a few people from outside of town come in and drive around and visit many of the houses that are doing the garage sales," Schielke said.
This spring marks the event's 29th anniversary, and committee members are hoping it will be "our biggest one yet." They're aiming to have at least 250 garage sales registered.
"In honor of this tradition and its 25+ years of success, we are hoping for a record garage sale year," the committee wrote on its website.
The registration form has yet to be published. It will be linked on the Batavia Firework Committee's website "soon." As the dates near, an interactive map will also be posted online.
