Batavia High School grad works toward PhD in genetics cellular macular biology

Maggie Keating, a 2018 graduate of Batavia High School, is now at the University of Colorado in a doctorate program in genetics cellular macular biology. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2021, completing her undergraduate in just three years before working for two years in the Kang Lab within the Department of Cell and Regenerative Biology at the university.

Batavia student named to women's swimming and diving team at UW-Whitewater

Andrea Bullman from Batavia, IL, who is studying Biology at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, has earned a roster spot on the Warhawk women's swimming and diving team for the 2023-24 season.

The Warhawks finished fourth at last year's Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships. UW-Whitewater is coached by Elise Knoche, who enters her sixth season at the helm of the program. The team garnered the College Swimming Coaches Association of America Scholar All-America Award for the 10th straight season in 2022-23.

Local student initiated into Omicron Delta Kappa

Megan Pierce, a native of Batavia, was recently initiated into the St. Norbert College Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society. The Society welcomed 146 new initiates from seven universities during September 2023.

Students initiated into the Society must be sophomores, juniors, seniors, or graduate/professional students in the top 35% of their class, demonstrate leadership experience in at least one of the five pillars, and embrace the ODK ideals. Fewer than five percent of students on a campus are invited to join each year.
