Dreyer Adds Integrated Behavioral Health in Batavia

Seeing patients outside of a formal psychiatry department avoids the stigma oftentimes associated with behavioral health.

Donna Cole Van Laarhoven, MSW, LCSW, LISW, a licensed clinical social worker, has joined the Primary Care team at Advocate Dreyer Medical Clinic in Batavia. Integrated behavioral health care is an emerging concept throughout the U.S., and represents an innovative way to offer services. Van Laarhoven will be working closely with the primary care physicians to recognize and assist patients in dealing with adjustment to their medical illnesses, so as to have the best overall quality of life. She will also be available for delivery of traditional behavioral health services at that site. Seeing patients outside of a formal department of psychiatry avoids the stigma oftentimes associated with a visit to a behavioral health provider.

The Batavia site has not offered behavioral health services in the past. With this expansion, Dreyer’s department of psychiatry now totals over 20 practitioners at five area locations.

Ms. Van Laarhoven received her undergraduate degree in Family and Social Services from Northern Illinois University. She then completed her Masters of Social Work at the Jane Addams College of Social Work at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Her special interests include depression, anxiety, grief and loss, elderly adults and their families, aging issues, adult families, and women’s issues.
