DUI Charges For Joliet Woman In Hit-And-Run Crash In Batavia

The woman didn't stop for a road closure, hit a barricade and a city vehicle before fleeing to a nearby business' parking lot: police.

BATAVIA, IL — A Joliet woman was arrested and charged with driving under the influence after a hit-and-run crash early Saturday morning, according to Batavia police.

Jennifer Carrasco, 29, was driving near Walnut Street and South Batavia Avenue around 2:40 a.m. when she failed to stop for a road closure and hit a barricade and a City of Batavia Emergency Services and Disaster Agency vehicle, officials said.

The area of South Batavia Avenue had been closed for several hours while ESDA crews were repairing utility and electrical lines damaged by severe weather. Traffic cones, barricades, flares and a marked ESDA vehicle with overhead lights on were in place to signal the road closure, according to police.

After crashing, the woman, driving a blue Hyundai Sonata, continued north through the closure, exiting onto Main Street. Officers located her in the parking lot of a business in the 200 block of Pamarco Drive.

The front bumper on the driver's side and the front quarter panel area of the Sonata were damaged. The ESDA vehicle, which was unoccupied at the time, sustained "moderate damage" to the rear driver-side quarter panel, police said.
