JUNIOR LEAGUE HOSTS FIRST ANNUAL 5K & KIDS RUN

As part of the Junior League of Kane & DuPage Counties, Inc. (JLKD) commitment to promoting childhood literacy and a healthy life style, the League is pleased to announce the first annual Readers on the Run 5k & Kids Run. The 5k & Kids Run will be held October 15, at 8 am at the Fox River Trail in Batavia (Houston Street & Island Avenue). “It’s important to introduce kids to the enjoyment of reading early on, and this run will allow us to illustrate what an adventure reading can be,” said JLKD president Christina Brady. The run will provide a family environment where parents and kids can learn about and put into action steps of healthy living.

There will be a book drive for donations to local literary organizations. Each person who donates a book will be entered into a raffle to be drawn at the end of the Run; one entry per person. Participants are encouraged to dress as their favorite literary characters and will be treated to activities after the Kids Run provided by the Junior League’s new members. The 5k Run is a certified (IL-09075-JW) event that serious or casual runners can use towards training or just for fun.
