2 Dead, 2 Injured In 6-Vehicle Collision On Kirk Road: Batavia PD

Investigation into the collision involving a tractor semi-trailer, a tractor pulling a fuel tank and four cars is ongoing, police said.

BATAVIA, IL — Two people died after their car flipped over on its head in a six-car collision on Kirk Road Monday afternoon, according to Batavia police.

A passenger car was attempting to change lanes when it hit a semi-trailer, causing the car to cross over into oncoming traffic. The car came to rest on its roof, and the two occupants died in the crash, according to the preliminary investigation, police said.

Officials did not release their names pending next-of-kin notification.

Six total vehicles — a tractor semi-trailer, a tractor pulling a fuel tank and four cars — were involved in the crash that happened around 1:36 p.m. Monday. Police said no hazardous materials leaked from the fuel tank, so no hazmat response was required.

The two passengers of another car — a woman and a young child — were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. None of the occupants of the other vehicles requierd medical attention, according to police.

Officials said no other information is available as of Monday evening.

Northbound Kirk Road, from Pine Street to Wind Energy Pass, until 6:10 p.m. For the duration of the road closure, traffic was diverted to both east- and westbound Butterfield Road.

The crash remains under investigation, and no citations have been issued as of Monday evening. Police ask anyone with information to call the Batavia Police Department at 630-454-2000.
