Fiber Optic Network Going Up In Batavia
MetroNet will begin construction on a 100% fiber optic network throughout Batavia in November.

BATAVIA, IL - Batavia will soon have a fiber optic network provider. MetroNet will begin placing fiber underground and on utility poles throughout the city in November, according to a news release distributed by the city on social media Tuesday.
The communications service provider says it will be the only 100% fiber optic network in the region. According to its website, MetroNet has construction areas in the works in several nearby communities including Geneva, Montgomery, North Aurora and Oswego. In all, MetroNet provides fiber-to-the-premise technology to homes and businesses in more than 30 municipalities in Illinois and Indiana.
Once MetroNet has completed its network in Batavia, residents will have access to Internet speeds of up to one Gigabit per second and a fiber TV service with improved picture quality, according to the city's release. The company will offer "a full suite of business communications services" once the project is complete.

“Customers are looking for ways to eliminate slow-downs and buffering. Much of the population is now streaming content—or exploring the possibilities—and our fiber optic and Internet speeds are a perfect match,” MetroNet Executive Vice President and General Manager Kevin Stelmach said.
Batavia residents will be mailed a letter before MetroNet starts construction in their area and leave informational yard signs with the company's contact information.
