FINAL: Batavia 46, Geneva 34, Gaspari Injury Details Unknown

The Bulldogs took a hard-fought game against the Vikings at Burgess Field Friday. Lots of big plays and taking advantage of key mistakes.

It took five years, but the Bulldogs once again emerged triumphant over Geneva.

Batavia pulled out a 46-34 win against Geneva Friday night on Vikings turf at Burgess Field.

Batavia worked fumbles to their favor and had several shining stars, including Quarterback Noel Gaspari, running back Dom Gulzado and kicker Brandon Clabough.

The only sour spot at this point is an apparent shoulder hit and injury Gaspari took in the second half.

Gaspari spoke to Batavia Patch after the game. He hopes it is a separated shoulder or something less serious.

Batavia Coach Dennis Piron said he was pleased with his team in a post-game interview with BATV, but his thoughts were definitely with the starting quarterback.

"I'm very concerned about Noel Gaspari," Piron said immediately after the game.

Fans at Burgess and at home were on the edge of their seats as the game jumped back and forth between the Bulldogs and Vikings.

First Half

Vikings Quarterback Matt Williams had a one-yard touchdown run to start things off.

A fumble by Batavia Running Back Austin Lindquist caused a turnover, but the Vikings were not able to work it to their favor. Geneva got to a field goal attempt, but it was no good with 2:39 left in the first quarter.

Batavia's first touchdown was from Alec Lyons from 3 yards out. Kicker Brandon Clabough missed the extra point, but made another later before the half.

The big gamechanger in the first half was Geneva's bad snap on a punt. Batavia's Austin Lewis, a senior defensive lineman, recovered it and carried it into the endzone to put them over.

Batavia had to start the second half with the penalty, but they finished ahead. This is the first game all season that Batavia started out at a deficit.

Second Half

Geneva started off the second half with a 44-yard touchdown by Senior Running Back Parker Woodworth.

Batavia responded later with a 29-yard pass to Junior Wide Receiver Zach Strittmatter on third down, which led to a Gulzaldo touchdown and a good Clabough kick with 4:33 to go in 3rd quarter.

Then there was another gamechanger with a sack that put the ball back in Batavia's hands.

This led to another Gulzaldo-Clabough one-two punch.

Geneva's Williams eventually runs in a TD in the second half, but it wasn't enough to overtake the Bulldogs.
