A parochial school in Batavia was evacuated Monday morning after employees reported heavy smoke coming from the lower level of the school, according to Batavia fire officials.
Fire crews were called to Holy Cross Catholic Church and School, 2300 Main St., at 9:55 a.m. and determined the heavy smoke was coming from an overheated motor on a large HVAC system, according to a Batavia Fire Department press release.
The lower level was vented, maintenance was called for repairs and the school was turned back over to the church and school staff, fire officials said. No one was injured in the incident and no other issues were found at the school.
