These dogs have the chance to come to Illinois this weekend...but we need foster homes first!

Audra - Female Terrier Mix, About 4 months old. Approx. 20 lbs. and sweet as can be!

Caesar - 8 month old Shepherd mix. We have been told he is AMAZING!

Jay - About 1.5 years old, Male, Rat Terrier mix. Sadly, Jay is Heartworm positive and will have to undergo treatment. Heartworm Disease or HW+ (Heartworm Positive) dogs are one area that Safe Haven Dog Rescue encounters regularly. Heartworm treatment generally costs over $1000 to treat, however SHDR has a phenomenal veterinary partner that allows us to treat these dogs at a reduced cost. These dogs are typically owner surrendered or found as strays once their owners learn they have Heartworm. It’s not surprising, but because the treatment for heartworm is expensive and time-consuming, this usually means a death sentence for the shelter dog. Once we rescue a dog we are committed to providing treatment and getting it healthy so that it can be adopted into a forever home. In order to save her we need a foster home that is willing to foster for at least 10 weeks.

We pay for all vetting, food, toys, leash and collar for the foster dog or puppy. You provide love, socialization, and start the dog or puppy on basic training. An adoption coordinator is always available to discuss any challenges that you are facing. We want a successful experience for you and the dog in your care.

We can only save as many dogs as we have foster homes for. Every week we have to turn away hundreds of requests to accept dogs into our adoption program.
