Grand Opening Event Planned For Batavia Movie Theater With 94-Foot Screen

BATAVIA, IL — Emagine Theatre will officially open in Batavia May 31, unveiling what's said to be the largest movie theater screen in Illinois.

Under the theme " A Night on the Red Carpet," movie-goers can expect hors d'oeuvres, an open bar, photo opportunities, unlimited concessions and "films galore" at the theater's grand opening and ribbon cutting.

Located at 550 N. Randall Road, the largest Emagine auditorium will feature a screen that's about 94 feet wide and several rows of heated recliner seats plus a front row of couch-like seats. Four outdated auditoriums were demolished to make room for the Super EMAX screen, according to the company.

Comparatively, a typical movie theater screen is between 45 to 65 feet wide, and an IMAX screen is 72 feet wide.

The cineplex will also be home to 11 other auditoriums, all equipped with 4K projection, "cuddle chairs" and heated recliners, officials said.

Emagine Entertainment, the theater's owner, purchased the Batavia property in spring 2020.

Tickets to the event cost $55, with all proceeds from the ceremony benefitting Batavia United Way. Starting April 18, ticket prices will increase to $65.

The recommended dress code is cocktail or business attire.

"Not sure what to wear? Channel Hollywood and slip into your favorite cocktail ensemble or business casual attire," Batavia United Way staff said on the nonprofit's website.
