Helping a Person, a Friend or a Family Member in a Nursing Home

If you or a loved one ever feel that you have been mistreated at a nursing facility, call a nursing home abuse attorney today. The next time you visit a nursing home, take your time and look around their environment. Often, there is abuse and neglect which can lead to serious injuries or death gone unnoticed. To be sure your friend or loved ones  are in good care, casually ask some simple questions to get the best and most responsive feedback. However, try not to turn every visit into a day of questions but of love and care.

Ask casual questions

Start by asking about their everyday routine is. You can further ask questions such as:

Have you made any new friends?

Do you feel safe at this facility?

How is the food?

Are you comfortable in your room?

What games and activities do you like to play?

Ask medical questions such as

Have you had any recent assessments?

Any new health concerns?

How will they be treating your health issues?

How do your medications make you feel?

These questions can be a critical part of learning how your loved one is doing both physically and mentally. They can also be used as a preventative measure for nursing home abuse and neglect.

Ask the staff questions

If you are a person who has rights to ask questions to staff members, ask them about the resident’s nutrition, health and behavior.

Ask them to see assessments and results.

Ask the nurse or nutritionist how the resident is responding to meals.

Ask if they are social with other residents.

It is often that families and friends do not want to burden their loved one or staff with a ton of questions, but the answers can lead to an overall better quality-of-life for an elderly person. The answers will also ease your concerns of how your loved one is doing, both physically and emotionally.

There is no excuse for the elderly to be abused or neglected at such a fragile time in their lives. The attorneys at the Law Offices of Steven J. Malman & Associates, P.C. are dedicated to fighting for the rights of victims and their families who have suffered an injury or wrongful death in a nursing home.
