Hey, Batavia! Pick a Halloween Costume for Da Mayor!
Should the honorable Mayor Jeffery Schielke dress up like the Mayor of Munchkinland, Mayor Quimby fro"The Simpsons" or "the Fat Controller" from "Thomas the Tank Engine"?
How would you like a chance to pick the Halloween costume Mayor Jeffery Schielke will wear this Halloween?
The Batavia Arts Council is giving everyone that chance this season!
The mayor, along with many other Batavia business owners and dignitaries are participating in the Batavia Arts Council's Halloween Hooligans fundraiser.
The Batavia Arts Council mission to is to provide support and opportunities for the arts within the Batavia community, and funds raised go toward providing scholarships and offering grants to artists and for art projects.
There are currently nine participants, with others ready to join the fun. In addition to the mayor, participants include:
- Daddio's Diner owner Scott Beltram
- Batavia Academy of Dance owner Anne Gugliuzza
- Batavia Main Street Executive Director Joi Cuartero
- Aliano's Ristorante Manager Steve Fisher
- Batavia Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Roger Breisch
- All Star Sports Instruction Vice President Nick Marsh
- Confident Aire, Inc. owner Tom Wngler
- Batavia Fine Arts Centre Manager Dominic Cattera
Each of the participants has three costume choices. The costumes have been appropriately selected to match the personalities or occupations of the volunteers.
For Schielke, the costume choices are The Mayor of Munchkinland, Mr. Topham Hatt (the "Fat Controller" from "Thomas the Train Engine) and Mr. Quimby, the mayor of Springfield in "The Simpsons."
Costumes and special-effects make up are being donated to the event by All Dressed Up Costumes in Batavia.

Votes can be place on line at the website. One dollar is worth one vote, $5 is work six votes, $10 is worth 15 votes, $20 is worth 35 votes, $50 is worth 75 votes and if you really want to make sure the costume of your liking is selected, $100 is worth 200 votes toward that costume.
Votes can be placed for each of the participants with one payment.
Voting is also available directly at the stores. Ballot boxes with full information and pictures are located in the businesses of the participants or in public locations.
The Batavia Arts Council is a relatively new organization. Its first grant was awarded this past spring to the Batavia School District Art Departments to help pay for a "pug'"mill, which reclaims unused clay so that the students may rework it into art projects. This piece of equipment will save the School District omore than $800 each year.
This Halloween Hooligans is just the second fundraising event by this organization.
