Batavia, IL: The Holmstad’s annual Bazaar is one of Fox Valley’s most anticipated events. Now in its 41st year, residents are putting final touches on all of the unique items they’ll be selling to the public when the community opens its doors at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 29. Shoppers will have a huge selection of a variety of items from baked goods, designer knits, quilts, wood and needle crafts, glass fusion art, plants and second-hand treasures such as jewelry, furniture, books and rummage.
“The Bazaar has truly become a very popular day for not only our residents, but for people from throughout the area,” said Dave Anderson, The Holmstad Bazaar Chairperson. “People start lining up almost an hour before we open on that day in an effort to be the first to purchase the items up for sale.”
Anderson says it takes the time and talents of more than 200 volunteers at The Holmstad to make the event happen each year. Planning starts nearly a year in advance as all of the unique items are created. There’s floor plans of the layout to consider, not to mention organizing shuttle service, parking and security.

“While all of the residents here at The Holmstad have varied interests, the Bazaar is one event that brings so many people together for one common cause,” noted Anderson. “The friendships we make along the way are really the heart of The Holmstad.”
The funds raised are used for a number of different purposes including benevolent care, resident programming, donations in the greater community, and scholarships for student employees to name a few.

When shoppers enter The Holmstad on September 29, they’ll find something for everyone at great prices. “At The Holmstad we like to say this is a pretty big deal for us—but, really it’s a big deal in the Fox Valley and we love organizing and having this event,” said Anderson.
