Beckers hospital review, modern health care ,NPR,others published this article about Medical Prices/Health Care prices transparency. Patients are finding that hospitals or surgical centers won’t give them this information before providing the service. Their doctors know the fees, but act as if they don’t know it.They do it because they work for hospitals or have partnership in surgical facilities--so they make good money from these facilities. In Kane county, monopoly or duopoly--is the reason for lack of price transparency.
In Geneva,Il.,price for preventive Colonoscopy facility fee can vary by more than 100%.

References: John Tozzi,”Thirty Cities where the price of a NEW HIP can double across Town.” is very good article.John has done a good job in getting reliable data.If your ZIP Code is not included, you can contact him on Email or travel a few miles in Chicago to get your Hip surgery. We talked to him about Colonoscopy and MRI costs. He suggested trying a website--but they have NOT yet obtained reliable prices for Colonoscopy.
Other writers make references to Healthcare Bluebook or Castlight Healthcare. We tried 60134 ZIP code-- the page shows--data for a Hospital 40 miles away and surgical facility 35 miles away.Surgical facility data is wrong as it has new owners and why would you want to pay 5000$ in a hospital-40 miles away-when you could get colonoscopy for around 1000$ plus anesthesiologist fee in Geneva,Il.-which is very close to you.
Castlight Healthcare data--we couldn’t verify as they wanted us to pay an annual fee and become a member.
Other websites tempt you to pay a fee or show you wrong data. SO BEST OPTION: CALL YOURSELF.Get the name of person providing facility fee and doctors fees.
