Lexus Crashes With Semi After Failing To Yield On Batavia Avenue: PD

After the impact trapped the sedan driver in his car, he was extricated and hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

BATAVIA, IL — An Aurora man driving a sedan was hospitalized after colliding with a semi-trailer truck on South Batavia Avenue Wednesday morning, police said.

The driver of a 2013 Lexus ES250 was in the process of turning from westbound Merlo Street onto Batavia Avenue at about 11:34 a.m. when he drove directly into the side of a Freightliner truck passing through the intersection, Batavia police determined in an investigation.

The 65-year-old driver was trapped in the car and had to be extricated by Batavia firefighters before he was taken to a local hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Officials said the truck driver, who was uninjured, was driving 5 mph under the speed limit at the time of the crash.

The Lexus driver was issued a citation for failure to yield at an intersection.

Both directions of Batavia Avenue were shut down between Carlisle Road and Morton Street for about 2 hours while police investigated and the scene was cleared.
