Man, 21, Charged With DUI After Hitting 2 Pedestrians

The juveniles sustained minor injuries following the crash in Batavia Tuesday night, police said.

BATAVIA, IL - A 21-year-old Batavia man faces a DUI charge after his SUV struck two juvenile pedestrians Tuesday night, police said. The accident happened at the intersection of North Batavia Avenue and McKee Street at about 7:23 p.m. Kevin R. Murphy, 21, of the 1300 block of Lundberg Avenue in Batavia, was driving his 2000 Ford Explorer when he hit the pedestrians who were walking westbound from the east side of North Batavia Avenue, according to a news release from the Batavia Police Department.

At the time of the collision, the pedestrians were crossing the southbound lane of North Batavia Avenue. The pedestrian crosswalk indicator lights were activated prior to the crash, police said.

Both juveniles were treated for minor injuries by paramedics at the scene and were released to their parents.

Murphy has been charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian at a crosswalk and with DUI-alcohol, according to a news release.

He is next expected in court on July 19 at 9 a.m. at the Kane County Judicial Center.
