Mayor Casts Tie-Breaking Vote On One Washington Place In Batavia

The council was deadlocked at a 7-7 vote before Schielke cast the tiebreaker.

BATAVIA, IL — The mayor of Batavia cast a tie-breaking vote to help a deadlocked council decide on future improvements to One North Washington Place. Mayor Jeff Schielke cast an affirmative vote that broke the 7-7 tie, Daily Herald reports.

The vote will allow developers Shodeen Inc. to do away with apartments planned for the building's first floor. Other changes call for heating in the proposed parking garage at the venue.

There's still yet another obstacle the One North Washington Place project faces. The soil near the site is heavy with lead, according to Daily Herald. The cost to remove the soil would be considerable and could be an additional roadblock to the project.
