Mysteries of the Soul & the Sea

The Batavia Area Summer Chorus once again brings accessible classical music to the Fox Valley in its second annual concert this Sunday, June 8, featuring music of Ralph Vaughan Williams (1872-1958), an English composer . The free concert in the Congregational Church's sanctuary will be followed by a reception with light refreshments.

The program consists of three works by Vaughan Williams: O Clap Your Hands, The Lover's Ghost, and Five Mystical Songs.  His interest in collecting and
preserving English folk songs shows in the melodies and harmonies
of his works.

Baritone Keven Keys’ “handsome,
mahogany tone” (Washington Post) and
beautifully “focused singing” (Chicago
Classical Review
) have delighted audiences with a wide range of repertoire
in both opera and concert literature. Recent appearances have included Mozart’s
“Coronation Mass” with Music of the Baroque and the Duruflé Requiem with the
Music Institute of Chicago. He is also an active recitalist, performing
throughout the Midwest.

Victoria L. Linich, organizer and conductor of the chorus, is a huge fan of Ralph Vaughan Williams'
music, as are many of the chorus members.  Gene Ton, organist/pianist, has been the organist at the Congregational Church of
Batavia since 2005.
