No. 8 Most-Read Story of 2013: OMG for This Crime Story
First in a Series: Who could resist a story with a headline, "OMG PD: Throwing Parties, F-Bombs and Ice Cream"?
Among the regular features on Batavia Patch is an article called "OMG PD."
I'm sure you're familiar with it. Essentially it's a roundup of crazy or unusual crime from the Patch towns in our area. Former Batavia Editor Charlie Menchaca put it together, so for a time, the traffic from a bunch of Patch sites was funneled to that one story. (It doesn't work like that now. We have a "copy" function that allows each site to copy and post an article with a separate URL.)
At any rate, that's probably why this particular article made the top eight. But it is interesting, no doubt.
Charlie's headline writing merits a pat on the back, as well. Who could resist clicking on a story headlined:
