Northern Illinois Food Bank’s Summer Food Service Program Provides Meals for Children At Risk of Hunger

Northern Illinois Food Bank today announced its participation in the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). The Summer Food Service Program is designed to fill the gap that occurs when school lets out for summer vacation and children who received free and reduced-price breakfast and lunch during the school year through the School Breakfast and National School Lunch Programs do not have access to those meal programs. For further information, please contact Tracy Kelsey, Northern Illinois Food Bank, 630-443-6910 ext. 152.

Free meals, which meet SFSP federal guidelines, will be made available to children 18 years of age and under, and to persons over age 18 who are enrolled in a state-approved educational program for the mentally or physically disabled at participating. A list of sites sponsored by Northern Illinois Food Bank follows. For additional sites, call 1-800-359-2163. Individual program site days and hours vary.
