PechaKucha Night May 12

PKN Volume 3 - "Smȍrgåsbord"

PechaKucha Night Batavia, Volume 3, will take place at 7 p.m., May 12, at Island View Banquets, 645 S. River St. (Route 25). Island View Banquets is owned and operated by Batavia’s VFW Post 1197.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $5 per person (cash only). Food and drink will be available for an additional charge (cash only).

PechaKucha Night is an evening of engaging presentations by a number of speakers in a fun, social environment. Each speaker talks about a topic while 20 images (slides) are displayed for 20 seconds each. An emcee introduces each speaker and there is an intermission—called a Beer Break—when the audience can partake in any beverage, alcoholic or not, and food.

PechaKucha Volume 3 is presenting a “Smȍrgåsbord”—in this instance an idea-buffet offering a variety of perspectives. Jaime Gutierrez, DJ, Seriously Fun Events, and facilities manager, Water Street Studios, is the evening’s emcee.

Smȍrgåsbord presenters include Bill McGrath, Batavia’s city administrator; Michael Foster, senior creative designer, Lighthouse Marketing Services, Inc.; Kathy Freedlund, Batavia Park District fitness instructor; Dani Hollis, executive director, Water Street Studios; Don Lincoln, Fermilab physicist; Melissa Monno, owner, River’s Edge Bar & Grill; Betsy Zinser, executive director, Batavia Interfaith Food Pantry & Clothes Closet; and Ellen Huxtable, owner, Advantage Business Concepts. Their presentations promise to be diverse—and diverting.

The idea of PechaKucha Night (or PKN) originated in Tokyo in 2003 as an event for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public. The fun, lively events now take place in 900 cities around the world. Batavia’s inaugural PKN was held last October. Batavia’s PKN Volume 2 in February attracted 200 people from the Fox River Valley area and beyond.

The premier sponsor for PechaKucha Batavia Volume 3 is BEI Properties. Other sponsors are Batavia Public Library, Hix Bros. Music, Lighthouse Marketing, Neighbors Magazines, Island View Banquets, and 25N Coworking.
