Repair Work on Batavia Home to Blame for Attic Fire: Fire Officials

BATAVIA, IL - A home in Batavia caught fire Monday evening while a homeowner was attempting to repair the gutters with a torch, according to fire officials. Firefighters were called to the home at 34W270 Sunset Drive in Batavia at 5:15 p.m. where they found smoke showing from the eaves of the residence.

A homeowner said the fascia board of the home caught on fire and that blaze spread to the attic over the garage, according to a Batavia Fire Department news release.

All occupants were able to safely get out of the residence and no one was injured.

The fire was contained to the attic space over the garage and was brought under control within 35 minutes.

The home is habitable at this time and the estimated damage is around $20,000. There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters.
