Report Of 'Possible Shots Fired' Investigated Near Batavia HS
Batavia High School was placed on a temporary lockdown as police investigated the report.

BATAVIA, IL — Police in Batavia are investigating what appears to be a false report of shots fired near Batavia High School Thursday afternoon. A resident called police around 2:13 p.m. saying they may have heard gunshots in the vicinity of the 1100 block of West Wilson Street. As a precaution, Batavia High School was placed on a temporary lockdown.
Law enforcement officials say they got to the scene quickly and were unable to find any evidence of shots having been fired. They reportedly interviewed several people in the area as well, but none of them said they heard anything "suspicious," according to a press release.
Once the investigation was complete, the lockdown at Batavia High School was lifted. Police say they believe nearby construction may have been the source of the noise.
