Republican Leaders To Hand Out Care Packages Saturday In Batavia

Local elected officials are set to distribute packages using a drive-thru, no-contact system at Pal Joey's Restaurant.

BATAVIA, IL — State Sen. Jim Oberweis is set to join his fellow Republican officials from Kane County on Saturday to distribute community care packages to Batavia residents who need help during the coronavirus pandemic. The local leaders will hand out the care packages using a drive-thru, no-contact system at Pal Joey’s Restaurant, according to a news release.

Residents can pick up packages from 2-3 p.m. Saturday at the restaurant located at 2030 Main St. Care packages will include food items, masks, hand sanitizer, food items and milk from the Oberweis Dairy, the release states.

Republican leaders said they will hand out about 350 bags. Elected officials, candidates and volunteers will place care packages in the trunk or back seat of vehicles to ensure everyone's safety.

Oberweis, who is running to unseat U.S. Rep. Lauren Underwood (D-Naperville) in November's general election, will be joined by Kane County Treasurer David Rickert, Circuit Clerk Tom Hartwell, Coroner Rob Russell, Auditor Terry Hunt, State Sen. Don DeWitte, State Reps. Dan Ugaste and Keith Wheeler, and other local elected officials and candidates, according to the release.

Kane County Courts To Reopen Monday On Limited Basis

Former Batavia city councilman Dave Brown is coordinating volunteer efforts for the distribution event, the release states. Brown, who is the Republican nominee for the Kane County Board’s 10th District, served on the city’s council from 1997-2019.

The distribution event is being sponsored by Oberweis Dairy and Woodman's Grocery, both in North Aurora, and Caputo's Market and Deli in South Elgin.
