Rescheduled Fireworks Show: What To Expect This Weekend In Batavia

The show originally intended to go off at dusk on July 4 was canceled at the eleventh hour when the computer system shut down.

BATAVIA, IL — The time has come for Batavia to host its fireworks show this Saturday after its original Fourth of July display was canceled at the last minute.

The show originally intended to go off at dusk on July 4 was canceled at the eleventh hour when the computer system that coordinates the show shut down, its backup system also failing. The program is not internet or cloud-based, Patch reported.

On Saturday, Batavians will again gather for the show, with observation areas at Engstrom Park, at Main Street and Millview Drive, and at the Batavia High School athletic practice fields between Main Street and West Wilson Street.

Dogs, alcoholic beverages and sparklers will be prohibited at all viewing areas, officials said.

Ahead of the show, Main Street will be closed to all traffic between Feece Drive and Pitz Lane once the Batavia High School parking lot and the handicapped parking lot at the Batavia Covenant Church are full. Traffic will be detoured to Wilson Street.

Police expect Randall Road from Main Street to Fabyan Parkway, West Wilson Street and Main Street around Batavia High School, and Route 31 through downtown to be the most impacted due to the show.

"Motorists are encouraged to plan driving routes accordingly and allow plenty of time to patiently drive into and around the event area," police said in a news release Wednesday.
