Riggs is Ready for a Real Home!!

Riggs is a Lab Mix that was adopted about a year ago to what we thought was the “perfect” family.  This spring they dropped him off at an animal control facility…and left him!!  It turns out that they had kept this active puppy longing for love and crated for most of his life!!  We brought him back into our program and the wonderful people at DePaw University in Geneva took him into their program for socialization and training.  After working with him 4 short days he started to calm down and focus.  He continued his training for a couple of weeks and is now in an awesome foster home.  Yes, Riggs is an active dog but all he needed was love, patience and consistency. He is so sweet and is ready for hisREAL Fur-ever home.

His foster has this to say about him:

“Things are going well with Jake. He reacts to all of his commands without treats. He's a very intelligent puppy and he has his routine down pretty well. I always like to have him do some commands before I bring him out of his room and now he's doing them without being told!! He's also learned how to army crawl...his personality has really come out now and I have to admit I love it! Fun-loving, good energy and generally a very happy boy. He still needs work with walking with another dog but by himself, he's loose on the leash with few to no corrections needed. When playing fetch, he stands there and needs a little more coaxing to bring him back…but he does come back in eventually. With his intelligence and energy, I would highly recommend this dog for Agility training. He'd be great at it!  His focus is coming along well, and you can see that spark back in him. He's getting better with the cat. Last night, the two of them were sitting on the couch next to each other and both were well behaved. He still will want to chase her but for the most part, unless she's running, he's usually happier playing with the other dog or enjoying a bone. One last thing, he has an impressive bark! You don't really see it for a little guy but that big head of his, gives him a good full deep bark. This hasn't been a problem at all. He barks at appropriate times and is not excessive. All in all, fantastic pup with a bright future ahead of him!!
