Road Construction on Kirk Road Gets Underway Monday

Expect traffic delays and lane closures as the road project gets underway. Construction on Kirk Road is expected to run through Aug. 30.

BATAVIA, IL – Starting the week of Monday, May 6, construction activities will begin at the intersection of Kirk Road and Pine Street in Batavia, according to a news release from the Illinois Division of Transportation. During the work, there may be temporary single lane closures on Kirk Road from County Highway to 800 feet south of Pine Street with flaggers directing traffic. Construction work hours will be allowed from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday through Saturday.

Work on the road is expected to continue through Aug. 30.

The work will include setting up erosion and traffic controls, temporary traffic signals, earth work, asphalt removal, storm sewer installation, placement of stone, asphalt paving, curb and sidewalk installation, and restoration of the parkway.

Kirk Road will remain open during construction, but may be reduced to one lane of travel in either
direction using temporary daily lane closures during off-peak hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Motorists need to be prepared to reduce their speed, exercise caution, and be extra alert. Motorists must watch for construction workers, construction vehicles entering or leaving the site, and obey flaggers and other traffic control devices within the work zone.

Motorists should expect delays while traveling through the work areas. Motorists may want to add additional time to their commutes and consider the use of alternate routes while this work is being completed, according to a news release.
