Scholarships Awarded to Area High School Students

The Holmstad Residents Support Higher Education

BATAVIA, Ill., The Residents’ Association at The Holmstad recently showed their appreciation to a group of high school students who are employed at the senior living community by awarding them with scholarships.

Six students, all employed in dining services, received $1,800 each to help in pursuing their education beyond high school. The scholarships were awarded at the annual Awards Dinner held at the community. Money for the scholarships comes from proceeds of the annual Bazaar and also from Paul Bergeson Memorial Scholarship Fund. Mr. Bergeson was a resident at The Holmstad and was a teacher, coach and Athletic Director at St. Charles High School.

Anna Fox and Laura Fox will both be attending North Central Collage in Naperville, IL where they plan to major in elementary education.

Page Lundborg will be attending Augusta College in Rock Island, IL and in interested in majoring in biology/genetics or environmental science.

Adrian Osborne will be attending Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA and will be majoring in finance.

Meghan Thayer will be attending Indiana University-Purdue University in Indianapolis, IN and expects to study the arts.

And from Aurora Christian High School, Christina Schulenburg will be attending Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, IN and will be majoring in nursing.

This is the 28th year The Holmstad Resident Association has given annual awards to qualified students. To qualify, a student must have been employed by October 31 of the previous year and submit a transcript of grades, an autobiography, as well as recommendations from two teachers, an academic counselor, and work supervisor.
