Police say the shooter fled and then struck another vehicle while exiting the drive-thru.

BATAVIA, IL — A man was hospitalized after he was shot in the drive-thru of a Steak and Shake in Batavia Thursday, according to police. Police say the shooting took place around 6:25 p.m. in the drive-thru lot at the Steak and Shake located at 1901 McKee Street.

Batavia police were alerted of the shooting after staff at a nearby hospital said they were treating someone who said they had been shot at Steak and Shake.

The victim told police the passengers in his car got into a "verbal altercation" with passengers in a red sedan while they were waiting for their food order. After the argument, someone in the sedan allegedly fired shots into the victim's vehicle and he was hit once, Batavia Police Chief Daniel Eul said in a news release.
