Teen Dies In Head-On Crash, Batavia Man Hurt
The teen and his classmate were returning from a golf tournament.

BLACKBERRY TOWNSHIP, IL — An Oswego teen was killed and a 17-year-old from North Aurora was injured when their vehicle collided head-on with a Jeep just after 4:35 p.m. Tuesday on Main Street between Green Road and Bunker Road in unincorporated Kane County. The Kane County Sheriff's Office said the teens' Mazda 6 was heading east on Main Street when it crossed the center line and crashed head-on into a westbound Jeep Compass.
Police said the 20-year-old driver of the Jeep, identified as Sergio Espana of Batavia, was assisted out of his car by passers-by, who used fire extinguishers to put out a vehicle fire sparked by the crash. He was taken Delnor Hospital in Geneva with non-life-threatening injuries. There were no other occupants in the Jeep, according to police.
The driver of the Mazda, 17-year-old Tyler Hammer of North Aurora, was also helped of the vehicle by bystanders and also taken to Delnor Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

The passenger, 16-year-old Nathan Kok of Oswego, had to be extricated from the vehicle. Police said Kok was taken to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove. Police said the teens are students of Aurora Christian High School and were returning from a regional golf tournament at the time of the crash. "Sheriff’s Deputies have spoken to school officials to make sure they were aware of the situation," police said.

No tickets have been issued in connection with the crash, which closed down the roadway as police investigated the scene for roughly four hours.
