Batavia Varsity Dance Team Headed For State

The Batavia Varsity Dance Team wins first in the 3A division Open Pom this month for its sixth straight state competition.

Varsity Dance Team is going to state again!

The team continues its successful competition season by qualifying for the State Championship earlier this month at the Huntley regional TEAMdance Illinois (TDI) contest.

The 17-member Varsity team danced its way to victory as they were awarded first place in the 3A division Open Pom category, allowing them to compete at the state level.

The dance was largely choreographed by the two senior team captains, Amber Steffen and Emily Yorke. The TDI State Varsity Championship, held in March 2012, is the season’s culminating event that highlights Illinois’ best varsity teams.

This will be Batavia’s sixth consecutive trip to the state championship. Batavia Varsity also placed second in the 3A Open Dance category and third in the 3A Hip Hop category at the contest.

Batavia will be hosting its own Regional TDI Dance & Flag Competition on Sunday, January 8, 2011. The Suburban Christian Conference Championship and the Northern IL Big 12 Conference Championship will take place at this event.
