Where Were You on Nov. 22, 1963?

Do you remember what you were doing when you heard President John F. Kennedy was shot?

Do you remember where you were and what you were doing when you first learned President John F. Kennedy was shot?

I was 6 years old, attending Harrison Street School in Geneva, IL. The memories are fuzzy, but I believe they sent us home shortly after the news was announced, perhaps because they simply didn't know what else to do.

I remember sitting in front of our television and the general feeling of shock and disbelief from adults, at home and on the screen. It was a feeling I only experienced one time as an adult, on Sept. 11, 2001.

That feeling came from the understanding that something dramatic had happened, that our lives had changed in one day, that the world was not as certain or as secure as we might have believed it to be.

As we near the 50th anniversary of John F. Kennedy's assassination in Dallas, what do you remember from that day? Let us know in the comments field or on the Batavia Patch Facebook page.
