Will Quarry Beach Be Ready for June 1 Opening?
As of Wednesday, officials weren't sure whether the heavy rains would delay the opening of Batavia's popular sandy water park.
Batavia officials weren't sure as of Wednesday whether Quarry Beach would be ready for its June 1 opening.
According to Batavia Park District’s website, Harold Hall Quarry Beach is scheduled to open for the season June 1 and stay open through Aug. 18, 2013.
But Batavia Park District Executive Director Allison Niemela told the Kane County Chronicle on Wednesday that heavy rains might put that opening in jeopardy.

Nielela said the quarry filled to within a foot of its edges and the Park District was using sump pumps to drain it. Flooding also made it difficult for crews to grade the sand beach.
She told the Daily Herald that sand erosion is the district's "greatest fear."

The district installed a new liner in 2012 to prevent runoff into the Fox River, the Daily Herald said.
The Chronicle article said Batavia's Clark Island Recreation Area has been closed due to flooding, as well.

Hours will be extended to noon-7p.m., Monday, Wednesday and Fridays with a twilight special from 5p.m.-7p.m. Admission during these hours will be $3 for residents and $4 for non-residents.
