Victim In Shooting At 119th And Western Identified

A shooting at the Shell gas station in Blue Island caused the death of 27-year-old Matthew Jones of Blue Island, police said.

BLUE ISLAND, IL — One person was shot and killed at a gas station in Blue Island Tuesday afternoon. The victim, identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office as Matthew D. Jones, 27, of Blue Island, died at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn as a result of the shooting.

Blue Island police found Jones' body while responding to the Shell at 11901 S. Western Ave., near the border between the suburb and the Far South Side of Chicago, at 3:21 p.m. Police cars remained on the scene for several hours, and northbound traffic from Blue Island to Chicago was slowed while the investigation unfolded.

Police say the shooting was an isolated incident. Blue Island police are being helped by the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services Unit and South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force in the investigation.
